I received this book frombooksneeze for the purpose of giving you my honest review of it. No other reason. :)
So what did I think of the book personally? Well, to be honest I was bored.
It was a very easy to read book, but highly predictable. I didn't need to finish the book to know that it would all work out in the end.
Now the book is well written, in an engaging style, with lots of details to draw you in. And I think it I haven't already read a lot of Amish based books I probably wouldn't have been as bored, but lots of the details I already knew. Like how Amish children tend to address their parents, the role of the church in their lives, the lack of welcoming outsiders, the need to remain apart from the world and so forth. I KNOW all that, so reading more of it was oh...hohum.
But the story itself was interesting. Learning why Rose felt as she did, learning why Jonathan made the choices he did, seeing the results of the World War on the lives of the people involved in it, and why it was all a difficult time period. It was VERY cool to see how God worked through these difficulties with the people involved. I very much appreciated that.
This is a book I can see a whole lot of people thoroughly enjoying as it really is a good read, it was just too predictable for me this month. Tricia Goyer is a good wordsmith and I appreciate her bringing this true story to life I do so enjoy a well written true story. Just nice to see history in action. If I have received a physical book I'd be sticking it into my homeschool group's library for others to enjoy. :)
