Jesus is the Friend who is always with you. Jesus Today: Devotions for Kids will pour this powerful truth into your children's hearts as they learn that He knows everything about them and loves them more than they can imagine. Each devotion is based on Scripture and is written as though Jesus is speaking directly to you, assuring that He is in control, that He is good, and that an amazing future awaits all who put their hope in Him. Adapted from the ECPA 2013 Christian Book of the Year-winner Jesus Today, this devotional has the same themes as the adult version, as well as written-out scriptures. It is a great choice for families to read and discuss during devotional time together.
I have to admit, I haven't really had this book long enough to give it a thorough review, but I can let you know what my son and i think of it so far. :)
My lad was confused about how the devotions are written, from the point of God talking to his people. Once he got used to the format he was okay with it, but it just threw him off for a bit. I have to admit to feeling abit of concern about this. Part of me thinks it would be too easy to word things as if they were God's own words, when in reality they are not.
I liked that each short devotion came with scripture passages to read alone with it.
I found the book was set up with a number of devotion pieces and then had interspersed a couple of pages with a quote and scripture verse. Seemed to be every six days or so. So if you started on Monday, then you have the quote pages for simple reading on Sunday.
Scripture readings seem to be taken from the NLT (but I am not sure, random notations say NLT but not with every verse), some verses seem to be taken out of a biblical paraphrase. There is a scripture index in the back of the book.
With that in mind I would be STRONGLY hesitant to let a child read this devotion without parental oversight. It's too easy to change God's word and make it say something it shouldn't say. For a book marketed for children I would be especially cautious.
So take that for what you will. If you do choose to use this book with your children, do pray for biblical wisdom and good teaching.
