Lori celebrates life as a child of God, the wife of a wonderful husband, and mother to three giggly girls. In the fourth year of our homeschooling journey, I blog about life, activity, and fun. I also enjoy sharing product reviews to round things out. All in all, our family enjoys sharing with you through At Home: where life happens. Welcome to the Blog won't you? My dear friend and colleague Lori. Does sound have color? Does color have sound? Evidently the answer is a resounding YES! At least it was to Vasily (Vasya) Kandinsky. The Noisy Paint Box: The Color and Sounds Sounds of Kandinsky's Abstract Art by Barb Rosenstock is a short biography about Kandinsky. It begins with his life in Russia as a child, learning all he should to be properly educated. And life went on without much excitement. Until his aunt gave him a little paint box. Explaining and showing Vasya how to correctly mix paints, educating him on how to appreciate art, something happened. Vasya began to hear things - a whisper, a hiss. No one else heard them, though. The more he mixed colors, the more he painted, the more he heard and the more he saw. But everyone thought he was being silly. When painting what he heard, Vasya was happy. Others around him thought he should paint properly, with houses and flowers. Or for him to do his schoolwork, his math. So Vasya tried to be who they wanted. Until one day . . . That day he saw the sounds of a symphony - crashing, stomping, caroling, thundering . . . And he knew he had The struggle to show the sounds was one Kandinsky lived with. But he learned to be true to who he was and what he saw. He learned to ask people "how does it make you feel?" And then they would be closer to understanding.
This is such a neat book I've been given to review. All about Canada's Rocky Mountains. This is a beautiful fold out book put together by Annie Davidson and Stewart Ross.
Lonely Planet Kids has produced a great book for teaching children (or anyone for that matter) all about the Rocky Mountains. Printed on a heavy board paper (like a really heavy cardstock or light bookboard) it maintains it's flexibility while being rugged enough to stand up for easy viewing.
As you can see this is a folding book, which means it can stand up nicely, for if you want to show a group of children the coloured page and then read to them the corresponding note written on the back.
A nice sized print to make the reading easy on the eyes, each item is numbered front and back for ease of use. If you look closely you can see how a train track or road weaves it way through the pages, while highlights are noted on the front, so if a child asks..what more can you tell me about Goat Lick Viewpoint, you can simply read them the note on the back.
Check out the details on the frieze, you can check out breath-taking views, learn how animals survive in harsh climates, visit world famous sites, and learn about some of the towns in the Rocky Mountains. Lots of detail, lots of information.
The fold out portion of the book is protected by a flyleaf, which gives you some bite sized statistics, like the size and location of the Rocky Mountains.

Janie Street, who often counsels women whose husbands have sinned sexually, is the authour of this chapter.
"Sin is part of everyone's experience." Oh... I like that quote. :) It frames the lessons of this chapter well. It is good to know how to deal with this type of situation, as, even though it might not affect YOUR marriage, it will most likely affect the marriage of someone you know. Point 1. Pornography is not grounds for divorce. If it were, any man or woman who ever had lustful thoughts for someone they aren't married to, could be divorced. Divorce is only meant for those who have engaged in the physical act of immorality with another person. Point 2 Sexual six has a variety of manifestations, which will not be delved into in this chapter. How one deals with it will be. How to respond to sexual sin. 1. Don't live in fear or expectation that your spouse will stray. 2. Trust your spouse. "Trust between husband and wife is only as strong as the people are." We are flawed, we won't trust as we aught to, but we still must trust. Do not equate trusting your spouse with trusting God. God can be trusted REGARDLESS. He will not fail you EVER. 3. If your spouse strays remember this truth. It is not your fault. It's not your looks, your housecleaning, your cooking, your whatever...your husband's sin is his own. You may have your issues that you need to deal with and repent of. But if you are working at being a good spouse and your spouse has failed in this area...let him own his own sin, you own your own. 4. Church leadership may become involved. Make no accusations that cannot be proven. Deal with your husband in a scriptural manner before you do anything else. Biblical Response: 1. You are not a victim. You have been sinned against, but you are not a victim. 2. Remember we all sin and are capable of so much sin. No need to become a man-hater. 3. Self-protection is a natural desire, but don't let it cause you to sin as well. 4. A good counsellor can help you work through various issues in your marriage, find one that upholds biblical counsel. Always turn to the word of God. Seek the counsel of those who have gone on before. Continue to love your spouse. This is what we are called to do. Remember we are ALL sinners. ALL of us. We have a higher calling than to respond in anger and bitterness. Calling to 1. humility 2. gentleness 3. patience 4. Bearing with one another in love 5. Eagerness to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace You need to question how that will look in your life as you work through your thoughts, feelings and attitudes about this particular sin in your spouses life.
Recently I wrote aboutwhat it means to be part of the Homeschool Review Crew.
As I was considering what today's word challenge meant to me (neighbour) I thought about some of the relationships I have with people on the crew.
And Carol who blogs over atHome Sweet Life, is so often one of the first people on the prayer board, responding to prayer requests. She has a heart big for the Lord and is a great person of encouragement.
There are many other people I could comment on and encourage you to go visit...but I don't have the time to mention them all here... so You'll just have to go visiting and then hopefully do some blog hopping. :)

“I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” John 14:6 Lyrics 1 Thou art the Way: by thee alone from sin and death we flee; and they who would the Father seek must seek him, Lord, by thee. 2 Thou art the Truth: thy word alone true wisdom can impart; thou only canst inform the mind and purify the heart. 3 Thou art the Life: the rending tomb proclaims thy conquering arm; and those who put their trust in thee nor death nor hell shall harm. 4 Thou art the Way, the Truth, the Life: grant us that Way to know, that Truth to keep, that Life to win, whose joys eternal flow. George W. Doane is the author of this hymn, he was a considered an excellent poet and he wrote a few different hymns such as Fling out the Banner, let it Float as well Return and Come to God. Mr. Doane was an American man named after president George Washington. Lived 1799-1859. He took the position of Assistant Minister at Trinity church after graduation from Union College. In 1824 Professor at Trinity college, 1828 Rector of Trinity Church in Boston. He also was Bishop of New Jersey. He founded St. Mary's hall in Burlington and also the Burlington College. Bishop Doane was man of talent and education, as well a strong character. With a big heart, he had a great many devoted friends who remember him fondly. He had a variety of troubles in his life, which affected his later poetry. Four volumes of hymns and poetry show the work that he put forth. This hymn is by far his most popular. Isn't it a great hymn? With Softly now the light of day being his second most popular. Even though he was considered a fair and able administrator and disciplinarian, he was not as good in the financial department when it came to the running of St. Mary's hall and the Burlington College. He ran up rather large debts in regards to them. I know that he had at a son named William, who also became a Bishop. A red chair Or perhaps the more colour savvy might call it burgundy. It's my comfortable chair. With a comfortable blanket. A place where I can rest my feet. Talk online with friends. Work. Study. Do devotions. MY chair. I saw on facebook a simple recipe for making a pull apart pizza bread. I didn't have all the ingredients to make it so wondered if I should bother but then remembered my fellows like just plain cheese pizza so I worked with that. :) It's a type of monkey bread. Preheat oven 350 2 Pillsbury pizza dough packages, cut into cubes. 2 cups Mozzarella Cheese grated 1 cup Parmeson Cheese 2 tbsp Italian Seasoning if you don't have enough Italian seasoning add some extra basil and/or oregano. 1/2 tsp garlic powder 1/2 cup olive oil. I would use less oil next time Mix it all together. Bake in a greased pan (bundt, square whatever you have). 30 minutes. Let cool slightly, and then eat. The above pic was taken 2 minutes after I set it down. We're left with three small pieces that I'll devour in a couple of minutes. options: add 8 oz diced/sliced meat (pepperoni is suggested) but you know... play with it, make it to your taste. : serve with pizza or spaghetti sauce I couldn't find the actual recipe I based this off of, but here's another one off youtube that is quite similar and I bet would taste great. Oh be careful little eyes what you see. Oh be careful little eyes what you see.. For the Father up above is looking down in love So be careful little eyes what you see. Eyes looking seeing awareness Feeding the soul IF allowed. Be careful what you let your eyes dwell upon. Do not let the joy of friendship Stop you from Blocking Stopping Closing off Things that If your child shouldn't see them that perhaps YOU Shouldn't see them either. It's not a little thing you know. Remember God sees it all He sees us in love He wants the very best for us. SO Be careful little eyes what you see. Move.
I have moved many many times in my life. :) Granted, I never moved as a child. WOOT WOOT! That would have been hard as a child, with the type of person I was back then. BUT as adult I learned to embrace moving. New things to experience, new people to meet, new packing and unpacking to do, finding things I thought I had lost, discovering things I REALLY truly didn't need, the joy of having a yard sale. Therefore, generally when I see the word move, I think positive thoughts. Lately the word move has been filled with some trepidation. Our church is closing. This means my pastor hubby needs a new job. Moving is a good thing as it means a new start. But it also means...ACK!!!! Where are we moving to? When will it happen!!! So much to do and it feels like so little time!!! I feel angst. I don't need angst. I need to remember that God ever has everything in his control. I can toss things out. :) I can plan for what I will move and then sell. :) I can know that I can take it one day at a time and it will all, somehow, work out. Weeks with a holiday in them never seem to go quite right... everything seems so off. BUT Here is how our week went. Sunday: The day started off with service at Church. The Sermon was on "In all things give thanks". Dinner at hubby's mom. We had turkey with all the trimmings. As usual mom cooked for an army, even if we had an extra guest. This was in honour of Thanksgiving Day. Monday: Lunch at my mom's house. We had soup and buns, my sisters brought desserts. The buns were homemade from my house. RECIPE. Found my song inspiration for the week: Whate'er God Ordains is Right. Tuesday: The lad worked through Veritas Press Bible and History. Did all three of his smart books: Science, English and Math. Teaching Textbooks for Math. Then we hurry scurried off for Art. A lady we know about 40 minutes from home does an art class for homeschooled children. This session it's on Perspective. Dad came along this time as he needed to get out of the house. I got laundry done, and some trimming done outside. Some weeds and vegetation cleared away. Wednesday: The lad got up all tired and out of sorts. This is our normal "let's help at the Foodbank" day and he was "I'll come along mom if you really want me, but can we please stay home?" We compromised. He would stay home and do all his basics and I would go to the Foodbank. Did some cleaning tidying in the garage today. Enough done the bikes could go back inside. When I got home we did some history.. we've started a new review for Homeschool Legacy called Cooking up History. So we learned a bit about George Washington and then decided to make a cherry pie. It didn't turn out as good as we'd hoped.. WAY too sweet. We used the wrong type of cherries for the type of pie. The lad went to Karate practice at night. Thursday: I was woke up feeling tired, sore and just not happy. Turned into a bad cough by the end of the day. The lad did VP history, bible, german, Teaching Textbooks and oh...I know we did something else...but it's all rather a fog. OH right, we worked on the human body. Dad was gone to a meeting all day, the lad and I managed to dry off some vehicle stuff for him and put away. When he got home the two boys went out pokemon going, and our international student went out for supper. The lad had Cadets at night, Dad drove since I wasn't up to going out. :) Today is Friday so it's our do things differently day. SINCE I am still not feeling well we kinda put a cap on what we did. I know the lad did something but since I got about 1 hour of sleep I really haven't a clue. :) I think he did some reading....i think. :) OH! I do know he wrote some more on his story. Throughout the week I've been keeping up on the #write31days challenge This week we've covered the following word prompts: Mail. Aware. Sky. and Question. I was able to pull together a few reviews: Make and Move Monsters. Aren't they cute? My friends son had so much fun with them. Art Collage Book. This is part of my art series. Nice use it up book for children. Sunshine. Fantasy fiction. Let's See, what else did I do. I've continued reading through two books coming up for reviews. Paul Tripps' Parenting and Jason Ladd's One of the Few. Enjoying both. The lad has started reading through The Warriors series by Erin Hunt. Yesterday and today I've been doing soup and tea and bouillon. :) Trying to clear up this silly cold. Oh.. I wrote a couple of posts. Another in my series "Letters to Pastor's Wives". This one on Lord's Day. Oh.. and a field trip we had to the Aviation Museum. I am ever so pleased that I was able to continue regular devotions in Ezekiel. The Lord's Anger at Abominations. God Acts against Abominators. The Glory of the Lord Leaves the Temple. Is the Church today like old Israel? Linking up at the following:
