Out of wood, sod, and whatever else they had handy.
Today we built our own pioneer homes...we used wood (and some plastic since we had it handy) but MOSTLY wood.
Comment from the lad...
"they needed to have a lot of wood didn't they mom?"
"What did they do if they didn't have wood?"
"They used grass and dirt mom????"
"why wouldn't they use rocks?....oh I know...rocks can be VERY heavy."
We talked about how they would need to ask their neighbours for help sometimes (especially with putting up houses). but also with other things that people needed more than two hands to do. it was a good building experience.
