Simply intrigues me

Musuem Box.  This site provides the tools for you to build up an argument or description of an event, person or historical period by placing items in a virtual box. What items, for example, would you put in a box to describe your life; the life of a Victorian Servant or Roman soldier; or to show that slavery was wrong and unnecessary? You can display anything from a text file to a movie.

Play History. There are tons of free historical games, interactives and simulations on the web. Playing history aggregates info on these resources in a simple, searchable database making it easy to find, rate, and review historical games. There are currently 126 shared games.

The Walters Art Museum.  These lesson plans have been developed by Maryland state teachers.   Covers various time periods in history.   Covers various grade levels as well.

The best of History.  A collection of history related websites.   A whole host of them.   Various time periods, a lot of USA history here.

History on the Net.     History on the Net is a free History information website that provides easily accessible information on a range of historical topics.     All information pages include interactive consolidation puzzles and quizzes.  History on the Net also provides a reference section.

Mapping History.  various maps showing history throughout the years.

Maps ETC.  Welcome to ETC's collection of historic maps. Here you will find over 5,000 maps representing many different time periods. A friendly license allows teachers and students to use up to 25 maps in non-commercial school projects without further permission.

Iroquois Indian Museum.  though perhaps not in Canada, we had Iroquois up here as well.   Interesting site to look though.   My son and I liked the sports and games page. 



US history

American Heritage Education Foundation.  Lesson Plans for K-12.   America's Heritage:  An Adventure in Liberty is a tested lesson plan resource and supplement for Kindergarten-12th grade teachers of social studies, U. S. history, U. S. government, political science, economics, geography, speech, and/or related subjects. Written by fellow teachers, the resource consists of age-appropriate and modifiable lesson plans grouped into three separate books according to level: elementary, middle, and high school.

The History pages, put out by The Mountain City Elementary School.       Good stuff, includes lesson plans.

Interactive George Washington.   This interactive portrait allows you to to explore the portrait in detail, from three very different vantage points: the symbolic, the biographic, and the artistic.

Juneteenth.   Juneteenth is short for June 19th, the anniversary of the end of slavery. These links take you to the history, celebrations, and importance of this historic holiday

American Journeys.   American Journeys contains more than 18,000 pages of eyewitness accounts of North American exploration, from the sagas of Vikings in Canada in AD1000 to the diaries of mountain men in the Rockies 800 years later.

Ancient History Curriculum & Schedule.  One of the important considerations in creating this schedule was that I wanted to do history chronologically. I wanted to see how all of the different civilizations interacted with each other and what different peoples were doing at similar times.

build a pyramid.  Not an easy game overall I found.  but intriguing none the less.   From BBC they have a whole variety of things over here. :)

History Buff.    This site is rather cool.   OLD newspapers that you can read.  Talk about the original stuff!  neat!   For instance, if you go here you can read that actual article of the wright brothers and flight!


World War II

Science and Technology of World War II.   information from the national museum of World War II.   They have lesson plans, activities, timeline and what not.

Corrie ten Boem Museum.   This is a virtual museum that you can tour online.  Quite interesting.  NOTE:  I could hear the audio in Firefox, but couldn't get visuals.

Varied

Time Warp Trio. Make decisions, solve the problem.

History for kids, Ducksters.  Ancient, World and USA History.

Kidipedia, History for Kids.   Written with the 10-14 year old in mind.   Kidipede is a simple encyclopedia with thousands of articles on history, science, and more!  Very USA focused.  I noticed they had things for South America and Europe etc...but for North America it was like Canada didn't exist.
