Our Current Reading Selection

In the morning, two books we tend to read. One page or one chapter (depending on the book) every day. :)

In the afternoon, just one book. And we absolutely adore this one. A nest for Celeste. :) Sometimes we are so caught up in it, we read TWO chapters. :)

in the evening - the rule is I read until 9 p.m. No later. :)   Sometimes too much conversation about what we learn or what we are thinking cuts down on just how much we read. :)   One chapter, paragraph, or page depending on the book.

We read one history book, one book with poems, one just because book, one "read with mom" book, one fact book (sometimes two), one book on Canada, and one geography type book.    Think you can figure out which is which? :)

A book I can't find on amazon called "What's cooking" it's from Byeway Literacy Ladder and I so wish I could find another 10 of these books.   They work SO well with my lad, just so very very well.
The New Days and Deeds - has poetry in the back, one poem a night...some inspire stories. :)
and currently we are reading YWAM's George Washington.

My Son's First Spontaneous Poem

The pigs pat pizzas
While birds bake buns.
And when they get together
we're going to have some fun.

While pizza's get patted
And the buns get baked.
When they're all done cooking
We're going to have some cake.

I think Mice Are Rather Nice

I used to maintain a blog over on Blogger called A Net In Time.   I stopped using it because facebook wouldn't let me link my pages.   It was giving a majorly hard time about it and it wasn't worth the frustration to me.   So I moved over here to weebly.

Anyways, i put a stat counter on that site, and today I received another update. Let's me know what people are interested in and what not.   I find it intriguing to watch.

I still get a HUGE amounts of hits with this poem "I think Mice are Rather Nice".   So I thought I'd put the poem up here. :) I still find myself reciting this poem once in a while so it's worth remembering. :) It was written by Rose Fyleman.

My original post

MICE
I think mice are rather nice;
Their tails are long, their faces small;
They haven't any chins at all.
Their ears are pink, their teeth are white,
They run about the house at night;
They nibble things they shouldn't touch,
and, no one seems to like them much,
but, I think mice are rather nice.

I learned this poem as a child and it has stuck with me ever since.
Want to have it here in case I ever forgot it. :)

Have had a reader comment that the proper wording of this poem should be as follows. Note the absence of the word rather in the last line:

MICE
I think mice are rather nice;

They nibble things they shouldn't touch,
and no one seems to like them much,
but I think mice are nice!

I learned the poem as I wrote it above, but I'm fine either way. :)

Conversation Jar

These are our conversation jars. What is a conversation jar you might ask? We pull from one jar, and put the used ones in the other jar.

A conversation jar is a large jar that contains a variety of slips of paper that hold everything from interesting facts, to questions, to tongue twisters to simple conversation starters.

We do these at any one of meals during the day.

Today we a few of them simple because we wanted to. Normally we only do one a day.

Today we did a tongue Twister
Cheap Sheep Soup. This one made us laugh as it's actually quite difficult to do well quickly.
We answered a question of "have you even gotten bad lost? if so, tell us about it. How did it make you feel?"
We read the statement that Dragonflies only live for 24 hours. This statement made us query the accuracy of it. So we looked it up and found that it was inaccurate statement. This page helps explain it. Dragonfly site. It's good to question that things we read. :)

We also learned what Hink Pink poetry is. The lad struggled with this for a first while until I got him thinking instead of saying "I don't know". A hink pink poem is one that is a two word answer that rhymes. For instance: Fat cat. The clue would be "what is a large feline?"

Rose Fyleman - Mice

I used to do all my blogging over at A Net In Time through Blogger but ran into issues with being able to link to that site through facebook and such like. I switched over to weebly since I already had my education site here.     Anyways, I have SO very many people who come to that blog for the following poem.

Mice

I think
Are rather nice.

Their tails are long,
Their faces small,
They haven't any
Chins at all.
Their ears are pink,
Their teeth are white,
They run about
They house at night,
They nibble things
They shouldn't touch
And no one seems
To like them much.

But I think mice
Are nice.

This is a poem that I learned as a child.   I wish I could actually see the original as over the years this poem has been copied down wrong I think.

You find it starting with "I think mice are nice", or ending with "but I think mice are rather nice".    So either they add or remove the "rather".   I best remember it the way I copied it. :)

Anyways, it was my favourite poem as a child, and I still like it now-a-days. :)
