Five Minute Friday: See

1/10/2014

Five minute Friday.
1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..

Go: Today's word is See.

What do I see when I tell a lad the sad news that a friend's male mouse killed his female mouse (which belongs to the lad) AND all the babies?   What do I see?   I see a lad whose hearts breaks with sadness over the loss of his mouse and over his friends sadness at losing them all.    How does one explain why some mice go wonky in their heads?

It's hard to see that sadness sweep over a child.

And Yet... it's heartening as well.  To know that I have a lad who can feel empathy for a friend.  To know I have a lad who feels pain of loss for an animal.

It's still hard to have the weeping and sadness, to have to look through that sadness to find the good and not knowing if we can...

And then having a lad say Mom, can we give (friend) some of our mice?   Can we give him some of our babies?   Do you think he would like that?

What can you do but have your heart leap with joy at lad who is so quickly giving?

It's make my heart weep with joy knowing that my lad does this of his own free will.  That God has placed the lovingness within him.

Rather cool eh?

STOP.

Five things on a Friday

1/10/2014

Pebble Pond is doing Five Random Things on A Friday.  I thought I'd join in.
Picture
1.  Sometimes when you live in Ontario, snow comes in heaps and heaps.
Picture
2. All the snow we had inspired us to do some snow experiments.   We filled the purple with salt water, the yellow with soap water and the red with regular water.   We buried them in the snow bank.  They didn't freeze ALL day, it took all night for the yellow and red to freeze and then most of the next day before the salt water one did.  The lad was quite surprised.
Picture
3. Three week old baby bunnies are very cute and very fast.  One of these littles got away from the lad this morning and was ripping off through the snow.  Our big snow banks did manage to slow him down though.
Picture
4. Sometimes owning opposing pets doesn't work out as well as one would like.   Our cats thought spilling over the bird cage was a marvellous idea and then capturing our female and well... wanting to enjoy her for lunch was a good idea.  We disagreed.  The lad cried.   We're none to pleased.  Our male doesn't sing as much right now.

5. This afternoon we're going skating with the homeschool group again.   This should be a fun time.     It will bring some joy to a day that started off so sadly (found out a friends mice were nut-heads and killed each other off).

Blogging through the alphabet: N is for saying NO

1/6/2014

this lad makes me think
Saying no.
Not always the easist thing to do is it?
It's one thing as a mom that I've had to learn to do.   But it is something that I need to learn to do better as well.

NO.. you can't aim that weapon you just made at the cat.   See..this one is easy!  So super easy to just spill that out.

What is not so easy?
Saying no when the lad keeps whapping me with the foam flail he just made cause he's still super excited about it.  :)

S why is it so much easier to say NO when he's aiming the same weapon at the cat, but not at me?   WHY?

I dunno.

But I do need to say no to him at some point.  It's just hard to figure it out sometimes you know. It's not like the weapon is hurting me (though it might hurt or scare the cat).  It's just annoying me.

And perhaps that's what I need to focus on.

As members of the body of Christ we aren't to cause damage to each other.  (and damage isn't always easily seen, but sometimes is felt)  We do need to show forebearance with each other... as in tolerating the differences that aren't leading oneself or others from God, ....but we don't need to stretch the patience limits of others either.  The whole ... lead not others into sin aspect of dealing with others.

Just hard sometimes to figure it out.

I can say no to folks when I feel they are pushing me into something, or I know it conflicts with family scheduling, or if hubby says no way hun, that's not happening, or if I know what is being asked of me is just plain wrong.   But when it comes to the sticky little stuff...the people pleasing stuff...it's much harder to figure out the no's.  And perhaps that's where trust comes into play.   Can I trust that if I say no to this friend that they won't get mad at me.   Can I trust that if I say no that ... there won't be this negative fall out that I need to deal with?    Can I trust that I can deal with that negative fall out in a Christ honouring way?

I have to admit, I can't always trust that....

Seems I have a bit more work to do eh?  :)
