Playing around with website fluff

12/29/2015

Did you notice that I made some changes around here?

Just a few, perhaps not so noticeable ones....
Picture
Three different watermarks that I can add to my pictures, to help prevent theft.     :)
Picture
A new banner for my website and facebook page.  I think I put it over on twitter as well.

I've added a new button as I'm sure you've seen over on the right.
Picture
I can't say that my family is particularly delighted with the changes that I've made.   They liked the old style...but I wanted to add a touch of flair.     I like the blue green colours I had in the past so I was delighted that Melanie was able to keep the blue/green colours for me.  :)

While Melanie was at it I had her design a new disclosure banner for me as well.  This one for generic reviews that I do.
Picture
And this one for the reviews for the TOS crew.   :)  I wanted to have a clear way of telling them apart immediately.   :)   Plus the crew needs precise wording for the legal end of things.    This way I have a pretty disclosure banner and meet needed requirements as well.. works out good eh?
Picture
So just who is the Melanie who helped me out?     She's a young adult in our church just starting to spread her business wings.   You can find her at her website.   Bear with her as she needs to flesh out her website abit yet.  :)    Didn't she do a good job for me?

I was quite pleased.

When I get a new website I plan to have her update things with my own website name and what not.    Anyways, I didn't find her services to be outrageously expensive or anything like that.  :)    So if you need buttons, banners, watermarks and what not done, ask Melanie to help you out and be of good cheer/encouragement to a budding entrepreneur eh?   :)

Change in Banner and Button

9/14/2015

A young lady in our congregation went through for Computer Design (and what not).  I don't understand it all but I can encourage her in her endeavors.

To that end I asked if she could design a new button and banner for my blog.
Picture
Although I liked the simplicity of my previous banner and button, I wanted to aim for something a bit more professional looking, and that tied together better.
Picture
I am hopeful that she will soon get a website together with some information so I can share it all with you.  :)    But I think she'll be able to work as a designer if she wants to eh?   :)  Cheers!

Working around Life issues

1/8/2013

Today I need to go to the doctor and I have someone coming over tfor a rabbit.  (I sell rabbits at AT Home Pets Rabbitry).   So we need to work around those two events.

I am hopeful to get the following done

1. our reading.  Now that we are back in the swing of things, the lad will need to read a book with me.  We'll also finish off our history book and read another story in 50 Magical Stories.   In Magical Stories we read a story called King Grisly-beard.   The lad really liked this story and thought it good that the girl learned to be nice and married the kind King.
The book the lad chose to read with me this morning is called River Life.  It is part of a collection of books called National Geographic Windows on Literacy.

2. To get some copywork done... we going through Foundations bible study, and they often have us going through the books of the bible.  I figured it made sense to copy them out so I sent to Copycat books which has the books of the bible as one of their free copywork sheets.
Picture
3. another geometry lesson
Yesterday the book talk about Tiplas and I thought I'd look them up as I'd never heard of them before.  I still don't know what they are.  We did extrapolate from the illustrations where they were, but it's odd not being able to find a definition.   I did find a list or two of geometric terms though.  Here's one from 123 games I printed off.   And another that I'll save in under the math section of the website from Mathwords.   AH!   Found out what a tipla is.  It is a 3D geometric shape with a flat top and bottom!  WOOT WOOT!  :)
Picture
4. work through the materials in his folder
I have a bible lesson, sight words, math questions, and a few other things in there.  We'll see how far we get. :)

and get outside for some exercise.  We'll go tobogganing or for a walk or something.  At least 20 minutes of activity.  :)  I'll update this post at the end of the day with what we've accomplished.

Nasa Kids Club

1/6/2013

I added a link to the science page for the Nasa Kids Club.

NASA has a neat site with several fun interactive games
featuring brain teasers, space exploration, math and other
subjects. Great for a "What can I do now?" afternoon!

ZooWhiz

12/25/2012

I haven't tried this site out.   It is called ZooWhiz.     It has both a free component and a paid component.

To use it, you need to create a free account.

Zoowhiz is a free online educational resource for school and home use and is designed for use with students ages 5-15.  The curriculum based learning covers math, punctuation, grammar, phonics, reading, and other word skills.  In order to use Zoowhiz, you will have to create a free account.

I put it under freebies, Free education sites.

Added to Website

10/20/2012

A site called "More Words"

This site is meant to: Find dictionary words for crossword puzzles, code words and word games like Scrabble®, Upwords® and Words With Friends.

But I can see that it might have a practical application for homeschoolers.   Can you find and write words that have the CH at the beginning of it, or whatever other sound you are teaching a child.

Or if writing a poem, to find words that rhyme and such like.

the potential intrigues.

Test for Dyslexia

10/17/2012

added to my links page.

here is a free on-line test for dyslexia.

Added some New Links today

8/1/2012

Learn the News.   This is a website that simplifies New Stories and helps children to then think about them.   I'm looking forward to browsing the site.  They'll send me a story once a week with questions in it as well.

I learned about this site through Links to All things Free.
