"Hmm," said Wizzy mussing up his hair, again, "well it's important to understand that Adam is expressing the idea of family. Adam is saying to her, 'You are my family.' " With this line, I was convinced there was good in this book indeed! :)
What do you get? A book written in a story format that teaches history from Genesis 2. This book from Wizzy Gizmo is called "In His Image". In that journey we learn about God creating creativity in his people, about his design of the world and how he made man in his own image. We get introduced to important theological terms, God as Jehovah, the importance of marriage, the role we play in the world and so much more.
It's length is about 53 pages, with some colour pictures scattered throughout. Seven chapters which are short enough to read through easily. It took us a bit more than a week to read through the book reading most or all of chapter each night. A list of vocabulary words (which throughout the book at highlighted in bold) and some review questions at the end. There is a link at the end of the book to the world of Wizzy Gizmo.

My son's thoughts were mixed:
"Mom, it was a good book, but I don't understand why they needed to have a robotic duck and why the dog? I don't understand that mom." "I liked it but some parts of it I didn't"
When I asked why "I don't know mom, some parts I didn't like. I don't like that duck."
My thoughts:
Took me a while to develop an appreciation for In His Image, often I found myself wishing I could see the characters in video, particularly to see the actions of the odd creatures, and Wizzy's workshop. The colour pictures helped, I just wanted to see them move around is all.. my son wanted to hear what they sounded like. :) I couldn't understand the need for the odd characters, and I have to admit to feeling a bit at first. The last chapter of the book won me over. I thought it was an excellent presentation of marriage and it's importance even in the beginning of the bible.
I found the quiz/review questions at the end of the book to be very helpful. It helped me explore what my son remembered and what we needed to go back to look at. Having that review was just an excellent resource.
I liked how big concepts were well broken down so that my nine year old could understand them. He has a good understanding "inerrant" "ex nihilio" and "vice regent" as well as other words.
So despite the slow start in developing appreciation for this story and the learning contained within, I am actually VERY able to recommend that others read it as well. I am imagining that starting with book one will give you a good grounding in who the characters actually all are. This should make your appreciation for book two come more easily. (at least I think so). Go get it, read it, decide for yourself. :)
