I have to tell you, this is a neat site...SmartKidz Media. We have had so much fun exploring it over the past few weeks. Child Safe videos and learning environment, and an excellent supplement to learning. I NEED to tell you about SmartKidz Media Library for Homeschoolers.
So just what is SmartKidz Media? It's a online streaming media library where children over 13 can go and browse to their hearts content, where parents need not worry about what they might be watching. It is also a place where parents can take their younger children and pick and choose together what they might want to watch. My son was nine, and after I looked through the site I allowed him to watch whatever he wanted.
He gravitated to the animal videos.. thoroughly enjoying the animal soap operas, animal journeys, magic of nature and so much more. It was good to hear those chortles of delight and gasps of wonder. "MOM! Did you know _______". When he was able to connect the dots between one video and another it was a wonder to him. :)

large pictures help one find what one is looking for easily and the captions that pop up give a good preview as to what each video is about.
I have to admit that I did draw him away from only watching the animal videos though. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the classics and some they had combined with images from artists of old and my son would watch the images while ignoring the music. "I liked those cowboy pictures mom".
"What did you think of the music"?
"I would have liked you to shut the noise off, but you liked it so I didn't say anything". (sorry SmartKidz.... my lad just isn't that cultured I guess). :) He did enjoy the jazz collection though. And the ancient cultures was a hit! I often heard comments of "that's interesting mom", "why do you think they did that", "people are very different aren't they mom"? I so loved hearing that. :) It was so much an enjoyment for both of us to watch these videos that taught us so much.
Fridays was very much our "let's watch smartkidz day". Not saying that we didn't watch it other times throughout the week...but that was generally the lad saying "can we watch an animal video?" On Fridays I would sit down and say "let's look at this, or have you see this yet?". Since it was part of our homeschooling day it was easy to push in those learning videos such as this math one.
